چکیده
A novel methodology to map the friction and normal stress distribution on rake face using Partially Restricted Contact Length Tools in orthogonal cutting tests is proposed. The influence of speed, feed coatings tool-chip when machining AISI 1045 analysed. results demonstrate that new can replace more difficult use less robust split-tool method. They confirm two clearly different contact zones: i) sticking region, governed by shear flow workpiece ii) sliding where coefficient higher than 1.

Prediction of tool-chip contact length using a new slip-line solution for orthogonal cutting
Tool–chip contact length is an important parameter in machining. Several ways had been proposed in different works to find its value, which gave discordant results for the same set of cutting conditions. In this paper, a new slip-line solution for orthogonal cutting by a tool with unrestricted rake face is suggested. Based on the proposed solution, a new formula for tool–chip contact length has...
متن کاملMeasurement of metal/carbon nanotube contact resistance by adjusting contact length using laser ablation.
A technique of measuring contact resistance between an individual nanotube and a deposited metallic film is described. Using laser ablation to sequentially shorten the contact length between a nanotube and the evaporated metallic film, the linear resistivity of the nanotube as well as the specific contact resistivity between the nanotube and metallic film can be determined. This technique can b...
متن کاملDetermination of workpiece flow stress and friction at the chip–tool contact for high-speed cutting
This paper presents a methodology to determine simultaneously (a) the flow stress at high deformation rates and temperatures that are encountered in the cutting zone, and (b) the friction at the chip–tool interface. This information is necessary to simulate high-speed machining using FEM based programs. A flow stress model based on process dependent parameters such as strain, strain-rate and te...
متن کاملUsing Tensor Analysis to characterize Contact-map Dynamics of Proteins
Molecular dynamics simulations provide vast amount of information about a protein’s dynamics. To interpret a protein’s dynamics and how it may relate to its function, traditionally, two-way analysis techniques such as principal component analysis have been used. However, two-way analysis techniques are usually limited by the fact that they have to be done post-process, i.e., after the simulatio...
